Your goal is clean and streak-free windows! But how to clean windows streak-free with an automatic glass cleaning robot? Follow these 3 steps, and you won’t be surprised next time the sun is shining.

Status quo for robotic window cleaning without streaks

In our example, we take the Hobot 298 and windows, which have no coarser traces inside, and show light water stains and fine dust deposits, e.g. after a few days of bad weather, on the outside. In other words, completely normal windows, without oily-greasy marks, e.g. from children or pets. Why that? Stubborn dirt is still a technical challenge for robotic window cleaning systems. After all, glass cleaning robots are not (yet) ready to "scrub" windows with a lot of pressure. Especially with greasy traces without pre-treatment, there is a danger, that they are simply smudged and are the actual reason for the streaks after cleaning.

Furthermore, please note that the window cleaning robot must not be used in rainy or windy weather. Window robots are not wind or weather-resistant! Also, the micro nozzle cannot specifically spray the substrate in windy conditions and thus not clean the windows properly.

Step 1: Preparation

Good preparation is half the battle when cleaning windows properly. First, the caterpillars of the window cleaning robot should be cleaned briefly to prevent dust and greasy substances (e.g. from hands) from sticking to the caterpillars and being distributed on the windowpanes. Provide a suitable cleaning agent. This can be e.g. distilled water, a water-spirit mixture, or a conventional streaks-free window cleaning agent. For cleaning, it needs at least two fresh cleaning cloths. Ideally, the special dry cleaning cloth and the yellow microfiber cloths for wet cleaning.

Step 2: Dry cleaning

How to clean windows streak-free now? To ensure that the windows are cleaned properly and end up as streak-free as possible, the windows must be pre-cleaned in a dry (!) way. The best way to do this is to use the glass cleaning robot combined with the blue microfiber cloths. These are specially designed for dry cleaning. Alternatively, you can use a clean yellow microfiber cloth, which is included in the Hobot 298 scope of delivery. So, you let the window cleaning robot run once over the glass surface to be cleaned. With this procedure, it picks up as much as possible of all the "loose" dirt with the dry microfiber cloth and frees the windows from potential substances that could cause smearing, e.g. pollen, fine dust from cars.

To properly perform dry cleaning, the automatic spray function must be turned off. Otherwise, the dust particles will be smeared overall, and the entire window must first be pre-treated and the streaks removed.

Step 3: Moisty cleaning

For the upcoming robotic window cleaning, a fresh yellow microfiber cloth must be used now. If you want to clean many windows at once with the window robot, you can order additional microfiber cloths for the Hobot 298 from our online store. The microfiber cloths can also be washed out by hand but depending on how dirty the windows are (fine dust particles, dirty road dust), they need a machine wash cycle (without fabric softener!) to get them really clean. Several microfiber cloths can definitely help here to get a streak-free result.

Inside: Start with the inside of the window. This is normally less dirty and therefore does not require additional treatment for streak-free windows. The microfine spray mist should be sufficient here. Simply fill the water tank with the cleaning agent of your choice. Then turn on the spray function with the button (drip) on the remote control. The button on the Hobot will start to light up blue. Now the automatic cleaning program can be started.

Outside: For the outside of the windows - if they have dried water stains - use an additional window cleaner and spray it on the windowpane. After that, the Hobot window cleaning robot can be started in the same way as on the inside of the windows. If you want to run the automatic cleaning cycle again, then it is recommended to use a fresh microfiber cloth, otherwise, the already absorbed dirt will be distributed on the windows again. Please clean the exteriors only in dry weather conditions. And of course, pay attention to the general safety precautions.

If you follow these instructions, robotic window cleaning without leaving streaks is no big deal.
